Rob and I don’t have a traditional engagement story. There was no real big proposal or anything. We were in St. Thomas with my family and we had planned on going into town the next day to do some shopping. We were watching the hotel information channel and they were suggesting good things to buy in St. Thomas- diamonds, tanzanite, jewelry, liquor, black coral sculptures, etc. Somehow we got on the subject of just pricing diamonds the next day and so we went into town and started looking at diamonds. We ended up in the same jewelry store my dad was having my mom pick out jewelry as her 40th anniversary gift. We started looking at diamonds and my dad asked why we were looking at diamonds and I told him it was for an engagement ring. Everyone started crying and we bought a ring! It was January 22, 2006- just two days short of the two-year anniversary of the night I met Rob. Although Rob says we don’t celebrate anniversaries until we get married, because until we get married, we don’t have an anniversary. But I remember the dates of the night we met and the night of our first date.
Rob had actually been planning on proposing on my birthday, but the way it worked out, we decided together to do it and I got to pick out my own ring.
Speaking of my ring, here it is! (Click to see it larger- and pardon the sausage fingers!)
