Cat and Mouse

So, Rob finished up his jury duty today and I went and picked him up, as we only have one car right now.  Then we went to Mary’s to eat leftover cookout food and show off some wedding proofs.

Anyway, we get home and I switched some laundry and I came in the kitchen and Rob said, “Do you hear that squeaking?”  I walked in the dining room and I didn’t hear anything.  Then I heard the squeaking and at first I thought a bird was outside the sliding door dying or injured after flying into our windows or something like that (we had been talking about birds flying into windows earlier).  Then I saw Beans run from over by the sliding glass doors where the squeaking was and as he ran by I noticed he had something in his mouth.

Sure enough, it was a mouse!  It wasn’t dead.  He took it into his kitty condo and it was kind of walking around and he was playing with it.  I got Rob a plastic bag and a towel and he captured the mouse and took it outside to release it.

But we had just been talking about mice with Mary and we hadn’t had one in the house for awhile, and sure enough we came home to a treat. We live in the woods so mice are kind of inevitable round these parts.

The cats are all wired now hoping to find another one. We gave them treats for being such good little hunters.

Life in general

I know you want to hear more about Japan, and I’ll get back to that soon I promise, but I wanted to pause from travel recap for a minute just to reflect on life in general.

I have been really enjoying being all domestic with Rob. I’ve been cooking most nights and I have the burns and scars to show for it. But it has been good because I really do prefer to eat at home whenever possible. Plus, I’ve been hitting the farmer’s market on Saturdays to get some fresh locally grown produce. There is this one lady who sells blackberries that are really awesome- and I don’t even normally like blackberries.

Then I get some sweet corn from this other booth. We wrap the corn in foil and put them in the oven to cook them. Then we put butter, mayo, lime juice, chili powder, and cotija cheese on them and eat them Mexican street vendor style. We first had corn on the cob like this at Dos Caminos in New York and it was so good. Then we found out that this is a common way for Mexican street vendors to sell it.

Lastly, we’ve been having fun with our cats. I spent most of my 20’s trying to make sure that I didn’t end up a crazy cat lady, but in the end I will still be a crazy cat lady. Our cats have such different personalities. Beans, the boy, is mischievous and sweet and a lover. Nico, the female, is very guarded and doesn’t like a lot of affection from us. They are really fun to have around and I swear they keep us young. Plus, it’s so wonderful to have a little breathing, purring animal next to you that loves you.

Beans is our black cat, and Nico is our white kitty.

Wedding Pictures!!!

So, I can finally share the albums from my wedding pictures with all of you. You’ll need to give your email address to log in, but the worst the companies (Collages and/or Pictage) do is send you coupons for ordering from time to time.

First off, we have Stacy and Mary’s pictures from the Zoo. Lots of cute ones here! Check out the zoo and rehearsal dinner pics by clicking this link: Click here and enter the username kristenrob and the password is 5464

Now, here are all the wedding pictures from Jessica Strickland on the actual wedding day (if you already have a Pictage login from another event, you can just use it to log in, otherwise, you have to make an account using your email address): Jessica’s pictures of our wedding on Pictage

Enjoy! And if you see one of you that you like, order it and support my awesome photographers!

Bear With Me

So, I upgraded Wordpress and my old theme didn’t want to work right, so I am using this one for the time being, but there are still some quirks I need to work out.  You’ll be seeing a lot more activity this week as I work this out and keep catching you up on our honeymoon and whatnot.

From the last post forward, when you click on pictures it will darken the page and pop them up instead of taking you to a different page or Flickr.

Here’s a picture to click to see what I mean:

Anyway, stick around and keep checking back.  I’m workin’ on it.

So. The Typhoon Missed Us

Last I left you with a proper blog post (and I know it was a long time ago), we were hunkering down for the typhoon. Well, it was expected to hit on Sunday afternoon (July 15th), but it never came. It just rained a lot in the morning and then cleared up a little bit.
The view from the Conrad bar on typhoon morningThe typhoon is comine
Since we could get to the train station without really setting foot outside, we headed there so we could go to the Tokyo Central Station to get our tickets on the shinkansen (bullet train) to Kyoto for the next day.
Then when we got back it actually cleared up a bit. It was really weird because there was so much humidity in the air, all the glass was really foggy.

So, since we really thought a typhoon was coming, we made appointments to get massages and facials in the spa. I read somewhere that if you’re in Japan, you should really make it a point to visit a spa. Well, wherever I read that- they were right. It was totally awesome! I don’t know that I have ever had a massage that awesome. I don’t know if it was Shiatsu or what, but it was the bomb!

After our spa treatments we went down to the Shidome complex and ate Chinese food at a restaurant called China Doll. It was pretty cheap and I would order a few things, kind of like Dim Sum, and Rob kept telling me, “You’re ordering too much food,” probably because he was used to American portions. But then the food would come and he was wrong. It was nice to be able to order a few things to try.
