Rob told me about these and they are way funny! Especially to music geeks like us! They are spoofs on how a song came to be by artists like Hall and Oates, Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, Toto, and Michael Jackson.
You can view them online or download them. If you downlaod them, the files may end in .txt, but if you delete the .txt so that they just end in .mp4 they will play normally from your hard drive in Quicktime. Enjoy!

We spent the last night of MMS at the Melody Inn. It’s always a
treat to see Mary Prankster delivering her gems like “The World is Full of Bastards” and “Punk Rock Heaven”. She packs the energy of a big-band into her little body and schools lots of aspiring musicians on what the heck stage presence is.

Then it was off to the Patio for Heiruspecs who were like an early Roots hip-
hop band. One of the guys was so talented, able to rhyme, beatbox,
and imitate scratching sounds so well that if they made another
Police Academy movie, he could be the guy who makes all the sounds.

It started out low-key, with the annual Songwriters Showcase at the
Jazz Kitchen, hosted by the affable Otis Gibbs. Otis even got some of the others
to join in with him.

So the fifth annual Midwest Music Summit arrived this year, a little earlier than years past, when it was held in August. The first day, on July 21, had several surprises in store. The Avett Brothers got things kicked off right at the kickoff party at the Mokey’s Tale. Go see them when they come near you. They are so good!

Richie Edwards is still a great songwriter. He used to front Archer Avenue, but now he heads Margot & the Nuclear So and So’s. You can check out some tracks of theirs at Musical Family Tree.

And then down came the rain really hard later that night. It was like a monsoon and it was ankle deep on the sidewalk outside the Vogue and College Avenue was like a canal.

Here’s everyone’s favorite friend and rent-a-hippie, Kyle Blume, dancing in the rain, in a picture which summed up the night according to Steve Hayes from IndianapolisMusic.net for the Following reasons:
“It really is a piece of genius on several levels:
1.) It’s the house hippie. Everyone needs one.
2.) It’s obvious he’s dancing, which is the accepted hippie reaction to rain.
3.) He’s kind of giving a thumbs-down sign, which indicates the rain is harshing his mellow a bit, but he’s still dealing.
I think it sums up MMS.”

I know everyone was music’ed out after MMS weekend, but The Woggles and Holly Golightly played to about 45 people on Tuesday, July 26 at The Patio.
The Woggles were high-energy garage soul and everyone would have loved it. They do it extremely well and with no pretention. It’s just about fun and putting on a good show. They’re a little older than your average band, and the front man was running around and often jumped down into the crowd. In fact, at the end of the set, the entire band, sans drummer, was down dancing with the crowd.
Holly Golightly came on and she was delightful. I have been a fan of hers for awhile and I have been anticipatiing tis show for years, since I was sick the last time she came around.
It’s kind of suicidal Patsy Cline meets a stripped down Mazzy Star. It’s kind of dark western music, with a little blues, and a little girl group. It’s totally awesome though. I can’t describe Golightly’s music that well, only offer up a sample of my favorite song. Link to “Anyway You Like It” She’s a protege of Billy Childish and I would call her the reigning queen of modern garage revival. She totally delivered live, with no quality lost playing live.
It was totally awesome, and as the small, but faithful audience screamed for an encore, she obliged, with an acoustic version of “I Let My Daddy Do That”, backed by her bassist on guitar. She sang while taking a drink and smoikng a cigarette

May
So, Rob and I went to Bloomington for a day in May. We went down early so we could eat lunch at the Irish Lion, and then we walked around campus and Kirkwood and had dinner at the Snow Lion (great food and a little famous, as it’s owned by the Dalai Lama’s brother).
Then we went to the Buskirk-Chumley and saw the Pete Best Band. It was so much fun! The band was pretty good, but it was just really cool to meet him after the show, where he kindly obliged me with this photo:

I just asked the Libertarian candidate if he was a Libertarian of the weed-smoking Republican kind.
The guy claims it takes 28 minutes more from where I am. We'll see.
