Weekend Round-up

This weekend was fairly low-key. We didn’t end up doing anything Friday because I waited for the Terminix guy who was late. It wasn’t his fault and I didn’t have anywhere to be, so it was cool, but now that my favorite guy that we had for years isn’t servicing the house anymore, I think I’m going to re-evaluate them when our service agreement is up with them next year. I want heavy-duty bug killing, and I might be looking at the Orkin Man. Friday night, I remembered that I needed to hit up the Kroger to get the ingredients for Rob’s birthday cake for his joint birthday ceelbration with his sister out in Greenfield. It was kind of chilly, and almost fall-like. While it was nice, I really would like some more warm weather before we go to that nice weather more often. Although this is Indiana, so we’ll probably skip that nice weather in the fall when it’s supposed to occur and go straight to the frigid arctic weather.

Saturday morning, I skipped the Binford Farmer’s Market and made a smoothie and the Pineapple Upside-Down Cheesecake for the party. It’s his favorite. It was off to Greenfield and after a brief stop at teh Riley House Restaurant to pick up some broasted chicken, it was party time. It was fun to play with Lizzie and we had nice visits with Rob’s family. His dad is doing really well after the kidney transplant. It’s totally amazing because I can already see improvement. I guess I just expected teh recovery to be worse.

I went for a bike ride when we got back, being inspired by the serious bikers- and by serious I mean the guys with teh fast bikes in Lycra looking like they were Tour de France training. I thought, “Oh, these guys must live out here because this terrain is probably good for training for races.” In reality, it was probably a couple guys who were part of the Ride Across Indiana which cut right through Greenfield on US 40.

Sunday morning, we rode up to the Binford Cafe. It was about 2.25 miles round-trip and we saw some geese and some doggies and enjoyed the sunny, yet cooler weather. It’s not very far, but I do try to ride my bike more and more to things close by like the Farer’s Market, Kroger, CVS, et al. In the afternoon, I headed to the IMA to see The Way We Get By which is a documentary produced by an old classmate of mine. I’ll say more about it in another post I think, because I have more to say. My reaction was definitely positive though. After I got home, Rob and I went to Barnes and Noble and had dinner at Taiwan Tea House on 82d & Dean Rd. on the north side. It was sooooo good. I could eat there every day.

And we were able to ease into this week today, by using our Monday to have lunch at the Mongolian BBQ (for cheap since Rob had a birthday coupon!) and head to Costco for some necessities. Productive, yet enjoyable.

Anyway, here are some random weekend pics from my iPhone:

Wanna give? Here’s a free quick way to make an impact…

Here’s the real link…
http://blog.firstbook.org/2008/12/19/a-call-to-action-post-a-comment-to-help-share-the-magic-of-bedtime-stories/

First Book is an organization that encourages literacy and reading by providing low-income kids with new books to read and own. Please take one minute using one of the links above this Christmas Eve or Day to leave a comment over at the First Book blog on a post sponsored by Disney to promote the new Adam Sandler Bedtime Stories movie. For every comment until December 25, Disney will donate a new book to First Book. They’ll donate up to 250K books and there are less than 500 comments so far. Honestly, I don’t know why this idea touches me so, but I am for some reason compelled to spread this around and encourage as many people to comment on the post. I guess I just feel like there’s a wasted opportunity there if Disney’s willing to donate up to 250K books and there are way less than that.

So, please forward this around a bit via Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, email, blogs, etc. and let’s try to help them reach that 250,000. It’s something free that requires little time that can really make an impact.

And as a special bonus, I will donate $2.50 to First Book for every comment on this blog entry between now and 11:59 PM EST on December 27 through First Book’s special that allows gifts to be matched by Random House and make double the impact. Normally, a $5 donation gets you 2 books, but until December 31, the organization will get 4 books. If 10 people comment on this post, we’ll be able to give 40 books.

So, promote your business, share pictures of your family, whatever…do it in my comments and I will donate some $$$ for books.

Rob and I enthusiastically wish you a happy holiday season, while Beans and Nico are more reluctant about it.

I’ll write more about my extended absence from my blog after Christmas, but for now I’m going to enjoy the rest of the holiday season with family and friends because I feel like the last 3 months has been crap/blah/whoa and I’m done with 2008. Bring on 2009.

Nothing but love.

Harry’s Slideshow!

I finally got Harry’s slideshow done after a long day here which has been totally weird.  Unauthorized people buying stuff on Rob’s credit card? Check. Power outage? Check. Battery backup for my computer failing? Seriously world, what are you trying to tell me today?

You’ll see in the slideshow that I am totally obsessed with baby feet. I think they are the absolute cutest things in the entire world. Also, Harry has the most awesome big eyes. When he was awake, he just kind of looked at me like, “Who the heck are you and what the heck is that thing in front of your face?” But he really didn’t cry much- except when it was diaper change time. He cried the whole time and turned red, but once the diaper was on, Ryan got him calmed down pretty easy. He is a super good and pretty easy baby, although I am sure a lot of that is due to how calm and confident Ryan and Kim are as parents.

Anyway, I mentioned before that Harry has a super-expressive face and he looks serious and like he has work to do, so I thought that the Otis Gibbs song, “I Wanna Change It” was a fitting soundtrack.  Plus, Otis runs in our circle, so it’s kinda personal.  Anyway, thanks for the patience Ryan & Kim; I hope you enjoy the pictures!

I totally had to do a self-portrait with me and Harry in homage to one of my favorite lifestyle photographers Amber Holritz.  Trying to do it with the D3 is pretty hard though.  That thing is a beast! I look totally grody though because it was a sunny day and I had the space heater going to keep him warm when he was naked, so I was kind of sweaty by the end.

Harry Sneak Peek

I have a bajillion pictures to go through, but I picked these 5 out to give Ryan and Kim a sneak peek of our little session with Harry the other day. Just 9 days old! Anyway, I’ll have them done soon, but just look at this little peanut! He has such an expressive face. Kim and Ryan are just natural parents and just so calm. I hope you guys enjoy these and there are even better ones coming!

Here’s a Slideshow of Alex’s Senior Pictures

Let me just tell you- Alex is just so stinkin’ cute!  She’s got the world by the balls right now, and I don’t even know if she knows it.  So much to be excited for in her future! She’s entering the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State in the fall.  Her favorite movie right now is Breakfast at Tiffany’s so we tried to do an updated version.  Unfortunately the only jewelry store in downtown South Bend has moved.  I’m pretty happy with how these turned out.  Hope you all enjoy these!

UPDATE: I like this one a lot too.

The Secret Workshop- Phoenix

I went to this amazing workshop this past weekend in Phoenix. It was with Cheryl Muhr and Amy Smith. The focus was building a portrait business. I got so many good pictures! If you like this, I am proud to announce that I am officially in business and available for hire! I’ll be updating this site with more information in the next few days! I am just so pumped! I have been tweakin’ all stinkin’ day!

I got to meet so many freakin’ cool photographers! Special shout-outs to my table-mates who were so inspiring to be around! Leah, Ellen, Gustavo, Lori, Sarah, Lindsay- such talented people!

While I work on some paperwork, here are my pics from the workshop!

Lizzie Slideshow

So, I am trying to figure out what to do with pictures on my blog. I can’t decide if I want a slideshow like in this post or if I should just do it where you could click and they would darken the page and pop them up without going to Flickr.

I ask anyone reading this to please give me your opinion. I can’t do both because the plugins conflict. So, do you like the slideshow like in this post better or do you like the Lightbox feature which can be seen here? Let me know in the comments!

My Favorite Dylan and Brady Pictures

Tonight I went through my Flickr and rated some of my favorite pictures of Dylan and Brady.  It was fun to watch them grow on my screen and it was interesting to go back and see the expressions they made as babies and see which was they’ve hung onto.  And Brady looked just like a little old man when he was born.  Too darn cute!  It’s also interesting to see how my photography has evolved and stayed the same.

I give you Dylan and Brady’s greatest hits!

Catching up…

I promise I will have a normal blog post for you later.  Right now it’s off to the IUPUI library to meet with my group for a project.

But for now, you can admire this very cliche punk rock bathroom picture of yours truly.  In black and white AND color.  And if anyone reading this could just test my comments for me (I had to mess with them earlier) and let me know if they’re working OK that’d be great.  And if they’re not, tell me what browser you’re on.
